小さなリノくんはパリで生まれましたが、
Little Lino was born in Paris,

その受精はバルセロナのクリニックで、第三者から提供された卵子を使用して行われたものでした。
But he was conceived in a Barcelona clinic, using a donated egg.

45歳の母親は、年齢が理由で、フランスでは２回目の体外受精を試みることができなかったのです（注：フランスでは43歳の誕生日前日が体外受精の年齢制限）。
His 45-year-old mother was prevented from trying a second round of IVF in France because of her age.

そこで、彼女とご主人は（体外受精に関して）ヨーロッパで最も柔軟性のある法制度をもつ国の一つであるスペインに目を向けました。
So she and her husband looked to Spain, where legislation is among the most flexible in Europe.

フランスの考え方では、43歳を過ぎてから治療のサイクルをはじめるのは（どうかと）…
They consider that when you start a cycle after 43... 

でも、わたしは過去にやってみたことがあって、よい結果を得ていました。
But me, I'd already tried. I had good results, 

だから、少なくとも試すくらいはいいだろうと思ったのです。
so I could've had at least an attempt, 

特に、（はじめたとしても）まだ誕生日から1ヶ月後、わたしが43歳と1ヶ月のときでしたから。
especially since it would've been the month after, when I was 43 and one month.

むちゃな考えではありません。
It's not crazy.

このマドリードのクリニックは、スペインに200ある生殖補助医療を専門とする施設の一つです。
This Madrid clinic is one of 200 centres in Spain specialising in medically assisted procreation.

治療が受けられるのは18歳から50歳までの女性で、独身者や同性愛者でも構いません。
Treatments are allowed for women from 18 up to 50, and it doesn't matter if they are single or homosexual.

その方法には、卵子の提供だけでなく、あとで子供を産みたい人のための卵子凍結保存も含まれます。
Procedures include egg donation, but also the freezing of eggs for those who want to have children later.

初心の平均年齢は、自分の卵子で第一子を産むための治療をうけられる人の場合、38、39、40歳くらいです。
We have an average age for the first visit, with people who can have treatments with their own eggs, of about 38, 39, 40, for their first child.

また、卵子の提供を受けたい人には、49歳まで治療を行っています。
And the people who would like to receive donated eggs, we do treatments up to 49 years.

ここでは毎年約600人の女性が治療をうけています。
About 600 women are treated here every year.

その半数は、国外の人たちです。
Half are from abroad.

ただし、決して成功が保証されてはおらず、高齢での妊娠には難題が生じる可能性もあります。
But success is never guaranteed, and later-life pregnancies can be complicated.

この治療は現段階ではまだ困難をともなうもので、
It's still an obstacle course, 

提供された卵子を使う場合、成功率は100％ではありません。
and with donated eggs there isn't 100 per cent success.

40〜50％の成功率です。
We have 40, 50 per cent success.

（提供卵子による体外受精を）何度か行えば、70〜80％まで成功率を上げられます。
If we can make several attempts, we can increase that to 70 to 80 per cent --

しかし、一回ではそこまでいかず、数回試行した場合です。
but not on one attempt, on several.

スペインの不妊治療分野における2014年の診療報酬の総額は、3億6,500万ユーロでした。
The Spanish fertility sector generated a turnover of 365 million euros in 2014.

エマニュエルさんとご主人は、治療のために5,700ユーロを支払いました。
Emmanuelle and her husband paid 5,700 euros for their treatment.

もちろん、リノくんが誕生したことで、この治療を受けた価値は十分にありました。
With the arrival of little Lino, of course, the process has been well worth it.

解説（山内百合子）

日本では不妊治療に健康保険は適用されませんが、フランスでは保険で治療がうけられます。ただ、体外受精の年齢制限が女性の43歳の誕生日前日までと厳密に定められています。

一方スペインでは、不妊治療をうける年齢に制限がなく、第三者からの有償での卵子提供も認められています。
