Is the acorn better than the oak which is its fulness and completion?

樫（かし）の実（acorn）が、その完成せる樫の樹（oak）よりも善きことあらんや。

Is the parent better than the child into whom he has cast his ripened being?

親（parent）は、その熟成せる実質を与えたる幼児（child）より善きことあらんや。

Whence then this worship of the past?

されば、何の故（ゆえ）に斯（か）く過去を尊崇することぞや。



The centuries are conspirators against the sanity and authority of the soul.

既往の世紀は、心霊の健全（sanity）と権威（authority）とを奪わんと結託せる兇徒（conspirators）なり。

Time and space are but physiological colors which the eye marks, but the soul is light:

時間と空間とは唯（た）だ人の眼が造りだす生理的色彩（physiological colors）なれども、心霊は光明（light）なり。

where it is, is day;

心霊在（あ）る処、昼あり。

where it was, is night;

心霊在（あ）りし処、夜あり。

and history is an impertinence and an injury if it be any thing more than a cheerful apologue or parable of my being and becoming.

されば歴史にして若（も）し余の実在（being）と転化（becoming）とを示す面白き比喩（apologue）もしくは譬話（parable）以上のものならば、差出（さしで）がましき無用物（impertinence）にして害悪を惹起するもの（injury）なり。
